Sacred Pedagogy

An Educational Framework for Human Coherence

An interdisciplinary framework investigating how knowledge becomes integrated into enduring changes in perception, judgment, identity, and action.

Framework Status

Sacred Pedagogy is an evolving interdisciplinary research framework developed by Greg C. Dansereau. This page serves as the canonical reference for the framework and is updated as ongoing scholarly research, documentary field inquiry, and published work continue to refine its concepts and applications.

Across cultures, education has often been understood as more than the transmission of information. Many traditions recognize that meaningful learning reorganizes how individuals perceive themselves, relate to others, exercise judgment, and engage with the world.

Sacred Pedagogy investigates these transformative dimensions of learning through an interdisciplinary perspective that integrates education, leadership, psychology, systems thinking, anthropology, organizational learning, and knowledge translation.

Rather than viewing education as the accumulation of information, the framework explores how knowledge becomes lived capability and contributes to enduring human coherence.

Central Research Question

How does knowledge become integrated into lasting changes in perception, judgment, identity, relationships, and action?

Relationship to Human Coherence

Sacred Pedagogy is a foundational research framework within the broader Human Coherence program. While Human Coherence investigates the conditions through which alignment emerges across individuals, institutions, and cultures, Sacred Pedagogy explores how educational experiences cultivate that coherence through learning, reflection, practice, and transformation.

The framework investigates learning not simply as information acquisition but as the ongoing development of perception, identity, judgment, and adaptive capacity throughout life.

Framework Overview

Sacred Pedagogy proposes that many of the most significant human capacities—including leadership, wisdom, ethical judgment, resilience, and professional expertise—cannot be developed through information alone.

Instead, these capacities emerge through an ongoing process in which knowledge is translated into lived experience, reflected upon, integrated into identity, tested through action, and refined through continuous feedback.

Learning therefore becomes a developmental process rather than a transactional one.

The framework investigates this process across education, organizations, communities, professional practice, documentary inquiry, and lived experience.

Why "Sacred"?

The word sacred is used here not to denote a particular religious tradition but to describe forms of learning that fundamentally reorganize human perception, identity, and relationship.

Across cultures, some forms of learning have consistently been regarded as especially significant because they transform how individuals understand themselves and their responsibilities within larger communities.

Sacred Pedagogy investigates these transformational dimensions of learning through an interdisciplinary perspective rather than a theological one.

Domains of Inquiry

The following domains are presented as interconnected dimensions of transformational learning rather than sequential stages. Individuals may revisit different domains throughout life as new experiences, responsibilities, and developmental thresholds emerge.

Framework Applications

Sacred Pedagogy has been applied or is currently being explored across a range of educational, professional, and interdisciplinary contexts.

These include adult education, higher education, leadership development, executive education, organizational learning, professional practice, coaching, documentary inquiry, knowledge translation, systems leadership, interdisciplinary research, and lifelong learning.

The framework may be particularly valuable for educators, researchers, leaders, students, mentors, public administrators, coaches, and organizations seeking to understand how learning becomes enduring human capability.

Current Research Themes

Why This Matters

Education is often understood as the transmission of information. Yet many of the capacities required for effective leadership, ethical judgment, institutional legitimacy, professional expertise, and human development cannot be acquired through information alone.

Sacred Pedagogy investigates how learning becomes integrated into perception, identity, relationships, judgment, and action.

By examining transformational learning across educational, organizational, and lived contexts, the framework seeks to better understand how knowledge becomes enduring human capability.

Rather than replacing existing educational theories, Sacred Pedagogy provides an interdisciplinary perspective through which recurring patterns of transformational learning may be understood across diverse contexts.
