Perceptual Intelligence
A Research Framework for Understanding Observation, Interpretation, and Judgment
An interdisciplinary framework examining how humans distinguish signal from noise, perception from projection, and observation from interpretation under conditions of uncertainty.
Framework Status
Perceptual Intelligence is an evolving interdisciplinary research framework developed by Greg C. Dansereau. This page serves as the canonical reference for the framework and is updated as ongoing research, documentary fieldwork, and published scholarship continue to refine its concepts and applications.
Human beings continuously interpret the world through perception. What we notice, how we interpret it, what we ignore, and the meaning we assign to experience shape every judgment, decision, and relationship.
Perceptual Intelligence examines these processes directly. Rather than treating perception as a fixed ability or purely intuitive experience, it investigates perception as a disciplined capacity that can be refined through observation, emotional regulation, reflective practice, and continual feedback.
Central Research Question:
How do humans distinguish signal from projection, observation from interpretation, and evidence from narrative under conditions of uncertainty?
Relationship to Human Coherence
Perceptual Intelligence is a foundational research framework within the broader Human Coherence program. While Human Coherence investigates alignment across individuals, institutions, and cultures, Perceptual Intelligence examines the processes through which information is observed, interpreted, evaluated, and translated into judgment and action.
The framework investigates how perception can be refined through disciplined observation, emotional regulation, reflective practice, and continual feedback, reducing distortion while improving clarity in complex environments.
WHAT IS PERCEPTUAL INTELLIGENCE?
Perceptual Intelligence is the disciplined capacity to accurately observe, interpret, and respond to information while distinguishing direct observation from assumption, projection, cognitive bias, and narrative construction.
It is distinct from intuition understood as an undefined or purely subjective experience, while recognizing that intuitive judgments themselves can become objects of disciplined observation and inquiry.
Perceptual Intelligence develops through disciplined attention, emotional regulation, and the refinement of how information is received, filtered, and understood. It underlies decision-making, relational awareness, and the ability to navigate complex environments without distortion.
This concept emerges at the intersection of perception, cognition, and lived experience. Practices such as remote viewing, pattern recognition, and emotional coherence training are not ends in themselves, but methods that reveal how perception functions when distortion is reduced.
Perceptual Intelligence does not propose a new sensory faculty. Rather, it investigates how existing perceptual, cognitive, emotional, and interpretive processes can be refined to improve the reliability of human judgment.

Although applicable across many professional and academic domains, the framework may be especially relevant to researchers, leaders, educators, coaches, practitioners of contemplative disciplines, and others interested in improving perceptual accuracy under conditions of complexity.
AREAS OF INVESTIGATION
Current areas of investigation include:
The Architecture of Perception
How information travels through the nervous system, psyche, and symbolic layer.
The Four Interpretive Lenses
Emotional → Pattern → Symbolic → Energetic.
Dreams, Symbolic Experience, and Meaning-Making
Investigating how symbolic experiences can be interpreted while minimizing projection and confirmation bias.
The Mirror Function (Echo Field)
Why some relationships feel like psychic entanglement
and how to break the cycle.
How to know what’s yours and what isn’t
Energetic boundaries for sensitives.
Reading attachment dynamics
Why certain people trigger collapse, longing, confusion, or fixation.
Temporal Perception
Examining momentum, anticipation, and the perception of unfolding events without relying on deterministic prediction.
Emotional Coherence as a prerequisite for intuition
No clarity exists without regulation.
Within the broader Human Coherence program, Perceptual Intelligence examines how information is acquired and interpreted, while the Architecture of Consciousness investigates how perception, identity, emotion, memory, and meaning become organized into coherent lived experience.
