Modern air navigation depends on far more than aircraft and controllers. Behind every safe and efficient operation is a complex network of communications, navigation, surveillance, and supporting infrastructure that must operate continuously, reliably, and adapt to evolving technologies.
As Technical Operations Manager for British Columbia, I led multidisciplinary technical teams responsible for maintaining and modernizing Communications, Navigation and Surveillance (CNS) infrastructure supporting one of Canada's busiest and most geographically diverse air navigation regions.
The role required balancing operational continuity with long-term modernization, integrating new technologies while maintaining uninterrupted service in a safety-critical environment. Beyond provincial leadership, the position also involved collaboration with international Air Navigation Service Providers to benchmark operational performance and evaluate emerging technical practices that could strengthen organizational capability.
Contribution
Provided strategic leadership for Technical Operations across British Columbia, supporting the modernization and reliability of NAV CANADA's technical infrastructure.

Technical Workload Benchmarking (DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung)
Participated in collaborative benchmarking with DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung (Germany) to compare technical workforce models, operational workloads, organizational structures, and infrastructure management practices.
The initiative supported the identification of best practices and opportunities for continuous improvement across Air Navigation Service Providers.
Technical Modernization Collaboration (Federal Aviation Administration)
Participated in technical exchanges with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) examining modernization initiatives, operational technology, and evolving approaches to technical infrastructure supporting Air Navigation Services.
These discussions reinforced the importance of international collaboration in advancing resilient, interoperable, and future-oriented aviation systems.
